Remarks of Minister of Planning and Investment
Year 2022 is the second year of the implementation of the resolutions of the 11th Party Congress, the 9th Five-Year National Socio-Economic Development Plan (2021-2025), and the two national agendas of the Government amidst the volatile regional and international situation, declining global economic growth is as a result of the financial crisis and political, socioeconomic, and natural environments challenges At Domestic level the country is facing with a COVID-19 outbreak as well as economic and financial problems. These factors have challenged the national socio-economic development of Lao PDR. In particular, the national economy is expected to grow slower than planned coupled with macroeconomic vulnerability. However, with under the direction of the Party’s leadership and the government, the country remains politically stable, the society is essentially peaceful and orderly, and people’s living standards are gradually improving.
Ministry of Planning and Investment paid has high responsibility on fulfilling its roles, especially in promoting the improvement of business and investment environment to attract quality investment, managing public investment more effectively, mobilizing and managing the use of official development assistance for both bilateral and multilateral frameworks, researching and developing various economic and development measures, particularly policies and measures to mitigate the economic impact of the COVID-19 epidemic, and produce statistical services for social services on a progressing premise.
The creation and development of the Ministry’s official website is an important step in disseminating the work of our sector so that the general public, students, investors, development partners and other stakeholders are systematically and conveniently informed.
In addition, there is also the Lao Statistics Bureau, which has the Antheily equivalent to a ministry, consisting with one office and three departments, and a number of auxiliary units with specific regulations. Local organizational units are under a provincial and Vientiane Capital Planning and Investment Department, as well as a special economic zone management committee (only for provinces with special economic zones), and planning and investment offices at the district and municipal

In addition to the above mentioned institutions, the Lao Statistics Bureau, which comprises 1 cabinet office and 3 departments as well as number of other bodies, is a secretariat-level agency to the ministry operating under specific Decrees. MPI also comprises Departments of Planning and Investment, Provincial Statistics Offices as well as offices for Special economic zones (only in provinces with special economic zones) at province and district levels.
